Applications for both scholarships are open, with a deadline of October 31, 2024.

The first scholarship, the IAKC Academic Scholarship, recognizes students who excel academically and demonstrate strong leadership skills, along with active involvement in their communities. This prestigious award is designed to honor high school students who exhibit outstanding scholastic achievements and a commitment to positively impacting the community. Two qualified students – one male and one female – will be selected for the award and will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Candidates will be assessed by a panel of judges on their academic accomplishments, leadership roles, and extracurricular participation, including the arts, athletics, and community service.

The second scholarship, Someone’s Hero Scholarship, is sponsored by the Devika Aggarwal Memorial Fund and aims to empower students who actively work to build self-esteem and confidence in others, especially those from underserved communities. This $500 scholarship is awarded to a student who has initiated or led projects focused on uplifting others, has contributed significantly to volunteer work, or has organized events centered on confidence-building. Applicants or their families must be IAKC members, and they must include a letter of recommendation from a mentor who can attest to their leadership and impact. To qualify, applicants must also be new to receiving academic awards from IAKC.

High school students in Kansas City are encouraged to apply soon to make the most of these inspiring opportunities, with applications due by October 31, 2024.
