As per the US Dept of Health and Human Services, “Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood for surgeries, cancer treatments, childbirth, anemia, serious injuries, blood disorders, and more.” Blood Donation helps ensure that people who have rare blood types have compatible blood available to them when they need it.
By saying- “Seva Paramo Dharma”, which means as per Indian values, service to humanity is the greatest worship. To help make sure we all have blood when we need it, 3 years back Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh(HSS) and Hindu Temple & Cultural Center of Kansas City(HTCCKC) started the Blood donation drive at Temple with the help of the Red Cross and now 2024 is the 4th year. In the last 3 years, 110 units of blood were collected, with the help of 37 average donors each year. The encouraging news is, we see 48% first-time donors each year; so don’t be afraid, if this is your 1st time. 🙂
Donors, especially those who donate regularly, keep our blood supply stable. Although many people donate blood after disasters, patients need blood year-round. Shortages in the local blood supply can happen at any time. If you are eligible to donate blood, I encourage you to make an appointment to donate today. Donating blood just once can help save more than one life. It’s even more impactful if you can donate regularly!
